How effective is YouTube advertising?
YouTube advertising has been shown to be incredibly effective. Paid YouTube mobile advertising, for example, is 84% more likely to receive viewers’ attention than TV advertising. In a recent survey, 59% of respondents stated that YouTube ads were more relevant to them than ads on other TV platforms. YouTube generated close to $8 billion in revenue in Q4 2022 alone.
Spotlight YouTube ad campaigns run on every device that YouTube runs on—mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and connected TV.
Ads are Google’s proprietary and cost-effective TrueView in-stream cost-per-view ad format. TrueView ads are skippable after 5 seconds; advertisers pay only for ads that are viewed in their entirety (or for 30 seconds) or are interacted with. Spotlight can run 15-second, non-skippable ads by request. Ads longer than 15 seconds must be run as non-skippable.
Spotlight offers the following targeting capabilities:
  • Geography: Ads are served to a custom geography with zip code level targeting.
  • Interests: Ads are served to users who are predefined to have certain interests. This is based on browsing history, the content they are viewing, and other recent behaviors.
  • Demographics: Ads are served to specific demographics based on gender, age, income level, educational status, and parenting status.

Spotlight’s analytics dashboard provides 24/7 insight into YouTube campaign performance. The Spotlight platform tracks the following:

  • Ad impressions
  • Clicks/Click-Thru-Rate (CTR)
  • YouTube Views (a View occurs when someone watches a complete ad that’s 11-30 seconds long, or when someone interacts with the ad)
  • Completion rate (when someone watches 100% of the ad)
  • Devices the ads are viewed on
  • City/region-level geography
