About Mike
From Bison punter to Fargo publisher.
Mike grew up in Oak Lawn, Illinois, outside Chicago, and came to Fargo to play football at North Dakota State. He punted for the Bison from 2003 to 2007, was named a second-team AP All-American in 2005 and left as the program’s all-time leader in punting average. After the 2008 Senior Bowl he spent time with the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
In 2010 his college friends were leaving town, saying there was nothing to do in Fargo. Mike started a VIP card, a website and a magazine called FM Spotlight to prove them wrong. FM Spotlight became Fargo Monthly, and the company kept adding titles: Bison Illustrated, Fargo INC!, Future Farmer and the FACES series.
In 2018 Spotlight opened its marketing agency. Today the team builds websites, runs digital advertising and SEO, produces video and photography, and still publishes magazines in Fargo and across the region.
Outside Spotlight, Mike co-founded Herd & Horns, a Bison-themed restaurant across from the NDSU campus, and is a partner in iDigital, a digital billboard company.
